i've been planning on going to this foreign langauge district convention for over a year and because some genius in new york planned it on july 4th weekend all the hotel prices have been jacked up making it impossible for me to attend.

In the UK, "I'm so pissed" means you have drunk too much alcohol, so this thread sounds like you have a bit of a drinking problem and have inadvertantly drunk too much to go to the convention.
In England they say "pissed off". But I think they understand their American cousins.

i work in an elementary school as a very low paid teacher's aide.
of course, most of the staff are teachers who are paid three times my salary and have at least a college degree, many with a master's.
every day i have to face the fact that i followed the "godly wisdom" from the gb and didn't get higher education (except the degree equivalent from reading all the wts and awakes-i haven't gone to personnell to see how that would work out).. this morning, a fellow aide that i rarely see was coming in the door at the same time i was.

my father and uncles are all long-time elders in their congregations.

From memory, Paul said something like "if we have hoped only in this system of things, we are most to be pitied."
If my memory serves me right then it is a most fiting scripture for those still left in.

Your story is very touching. If you can talk about all those things, then it IS a good sign.
For your medicaments: do listen to your doctors advice. It may not be good for you to stop cold turkey, but make it clear to him that you do want to stop.
I think your fathers violence wasnt totally related to the Borg, though maybe that didnt help.
My own mother was particulaly violent towards me, even before the Borg era. She too, now says it was because she loved me. I think these kind of people suffer from their own sickness, and find a refuge worshipping a violent god. It kind of justifies there own behaviour.

much has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.
- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.
rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.
We should be grateful . . . "from a distance" is the best way to identify them.

hi, i am a catholic.
i've never been a jw nor ever tried to become one but i know a number of former jws and one or two current/active jws.. i've been wondering why active jws are so anti-catholic; is it part of the teaching they receive in the watchtower?.

In the early days, Russell and others ATTACKED the Catholic church in particular, though all "organised" religion was also the target of his wrathful public discources. The feelings held for the Catholic Church ( one could say the hate), continued through the decades, and maybe down until today. I haven't read any WT publications for 15 years, but a guess that their remarks towards the church are the same.
I think it would be fair to say that most JWs are ex-catholics. (large numbers in strong Catholic countries)
